Demi Lovato had a pretty good birthday this year. Yesterday, Will Ferrell confirmed that he has cast the actor/singer/Leo/newly 27-year-old in his new Netflix movie, Eurovision. This will be Lovato’s first role in a live-action film since Disney’s movie musical Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, which was released way back in 2010, and we’re so stoked for her.

Ferrell made the official casting announcement on Netflix’s Twitter. In the 27-second video (coincidence?), the comedian wishes “a brand-new cast member” a happy birthday and presents the mystery member with a cake, and then it cuts to a boomerang of Lovato blowing out the candles in her trailer.

Lovato later reposted the video on her own Instagram with the caption: “y’all, Will Ferrell made me a cake…from scratch. It looks completely professional and store-bought so I’m not at all suspicious that he baked it himself in all of his free time.”

In

Eurovision, Lovato will have a chance to flex both her acting and her singing skills once again, throwing her back to those Camp Rock days.

The Netflix film, which Ferrell wrote and stars in, is based on the European singing competition show of the same name that first aired in 1956. (Fun fact: the show helped launch the careers of both ABBA, who won representing Sweden in 1974, and Celine Dion, who took the crown for Switzerland in 1988.)

According to IMDb’s plot summary, the movie, which is directed by

Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin, follows “aspiring Icelandic musicians Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir journey as they are given the once-in-a-lifetime chance to represent their country at the world’s biggest song competition.”

Rachel McAdams will play Ericksdottir, while Ferrell takes on Erickssong. And in a role befitting of the former teen queen with major pipes, Lovato will play Katiana, one of the best and most angelic singers in Iceland—a very different role from her tenure as Camp Rock‘s Mitchie Torres, the teen camper who falls in love with a floppy-haired Joe Jonas.

The stacked cast also includes Dan Stevens as Alexander Lemtov, a Russian contestant on the show, and Pierce Brosnan as Erick Erickssong Ferrell’s father and the most handsome man in Iceland (probably true). All sounds amazing, but we’d like to humbly request that the role allows Lovato to show off her new lob?

Eurovision is currently in production in the UK and Iceland. Netflix hasn’t announced a release date yet, so we’ll just keep our ears open for an Icelandic angel singing.
