Hillary Clinton defends her ties to Harvey Weinstein
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the former secretary of state was asked whether she regretted her ties to the disgraced filmmaker, who’s been accused of sexual misconduct by more than 80 women.
“How could we have known? He raised money for me, for the Obamas, for Democrats in general,” Clinton said in the interview published Tuesday. “And that at the time was something that everybody thought made sense. And of course, if all of us had known what we know now, it would have affected our behavior.”
Weinstein had been a longtime donor to Democratic candidates and even held a fundraiser for Clinton during her 2016 presidential run.
On Wednesday, the first day of his rape trial in Manhattan, prosecutors showed jurors a photo of the movie mogul “rubbing elbows” with former President Bill Clinton.
The move prompted the defense to call for a mistrial, saying the chummy pic was “100% irrelevant and has nothing to do with sex crimes.” A judge denied the request.
After bombshell allegations of decades of sexual misconduct emerged against Weinstein in 2017, Hillary Clinton issued a statement saying she was “shocked and appalled” by the revelations.
