Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage to Star in ‘Twins’-Esque Comedy ‘Brothers’
I love Twins. Not in real life, mind you. Twins are pretty freakin’ creepy. But Ivan Reitman‘s 1988 movie Twins, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito? Yeah, I love that movie. We were supposed to get a sequel called Triplets that would’ve added Eddie Murphy to the mix, but I’m kind of glad we didn’t, because the idea of Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage playing unlikely siblings sounds much better. And no, I didn’t randomly pull their names out of a hat. The Avengers: Infinity War co-stars have signed on to star in the comedy Brothers, which Legendary just acquired following a bidding war.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but who needs to know the plot when the cast has likely already sold you a ticket? This is a great pairing on paper, and while Brolin and Dinklage are known primarily for their dramatic chops, each happens to be an effective comic actor when they’re given the chance to go for a laugh instead of the jugular.
Here’s the catch — the script hails from Etan Cohen. Now, on one hand, he’s the writer of Tropic Thunder (props!), but his credits also include Get Hard and the newly-crowned Razzie winner Holmes & Watson, which I didn’t even bother to see. I mean, I see everything, and was especially down for the reunion between the two stars of Step Brothers. But I was warned to stay far, far away from Holmes & Watson, which some thought could be a career killer for Cohen. That doesn’t appear to be the case, as multiple studios chased this package. That said, Cohen is not attached to direct the project at this time, so perhaps Legendary will find another filmmaker to bring his script to life.
Andrew Lazar (American Sniper) will produce under his Mad Chance banner, while Brolin and Dinklage will also produce via their respective companies, Brolin Productions and Estuary Films, whose David Ginsberg will also produce.
Brolin is coming off a banner year that saw him star in Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2, as well as Sicario: Day of the Soldado. He’s set to reprise his villainous role as Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, which is slated to destroy box office records when it hits theaters on April 26.
Dinklage recently starred in the HBO movie My Dinner With Herve and will soon be seen reprising his iconic role as Tyrion Lannister on the final season of Game of Thrones, which debuts April 14 — twelve days before Endgame arrives.
CAA represents Brolin, Dinklage and Cohen, the latter of whom is also repped by Mosaic. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news about Brothers.
