New ‘Saturday Night Live’ cast member Shane Gillis jokes about slur video in stand-up
Hours after tape emerged showing new “Saturday Night Live” cast member Shane Gillis using racist slurs against Asian people, he addressed the issue during a “hilarious” stand-up set, we’re told.
The long-running NBC show said Thursday that Gillis would be joining the cast next season, but a YouTube video podcast quickly surfaced in which he says “Chinatown’s f - - king nuts,” adding “Let the f - - king ch - - ks live there.” He posted an apology online.
Now a Page Six spy says that he later showed up onstage at the Stand comedy club with comedian Ari Shaffir. “Shane talked about the apology he put out on Twitter during his 30 minutes on the stage,” said our spy. “He was hilarious and everyone enjoyed it. The audience really enjoyed his set and all went up to him outside after the show and expressed their support.”
Troubled comedian Artie Lange also performed, marking his return to comedy after his most recent struggle with drugs. Lange — who announced he’s seven months sober after a rehab stint and various arrests — even kidded about his nose, which has collapsed due to cocaine use.
