Subway commuter goes viral after perfectly singing Lady Gaga’s ‘Shallow’
She lived up to the lyric, “I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in.”
An online star was born after a talented straphanger belted out a perfect rendition of a Lady Gaga’s “Shallow” on the spur of the moment. A video of her stunning performance took Twitter by storm, racking up 23 million viral video views on Twitter since Tuesday.
After several people drop the vocal ball, Freshwater approaches one underground talent — who knocks her “Shallow” verse out of the park. He prompts her with the lyric, “Tell me something, girl: Are you happy in this modern world?” The blonde-haired woman instantly sings back “Or do you need more” in perfect pitch.
However, this isn’t the vocalist’s first rodeo. Turns out the subway performer is Charlotte Awbery, 30, a professional singer in the UK.
“Wow! You’re really good — keep going,” Freshwater exclaims in the clip, prompting the crooning commuter to flawlessly belt out the chorus of “Shallow” in a performance worthy of Gaga herself.
Suffice it to say, her performance struck a chord with social media users.
“Gaga needs to see this and we need to find this woman because whew she can SING,” posted one Twitter fan.
“Sis had them pipes on READY,” gushed another.
While Freshwater has posted numerous “Finish The Lyric” posts to Facebook, it’s safe to say that this rendition blows the rest out of the water. (A longer version of the video posted on Facebook has garnered another 13 million views.)
Awbery has previously gone viral on Instagram for her covers of other famous songs, including Judy Garland’s “Over the Rainbow,” Sia’s “Chandelier,” Prince’s “Purple Rain” and Celine Dion’s “Love Is On The Way.”
Charlotte currently boasts more than 167,000 followers on Instagram, a number that will no doubt skyrocket in wake of her scintillating subway solo.
