Why Elizabeth Vargas always talks about money on ‘RHOC’
Money talks for “RHOC” newbie Elizabeth Vargas.
In an exclusive sneak peek from Wednesday night’s episode, Vargas can be seen reflecting on why she always discusses her finances with her co-stars.
“I’m probably talking about it because it’s all I’m getting out of my divorce,” the Vargas Vodka founder tells Braunwyn Windham-Burke and Kelly Dodd.
Vargas was in the midst of a divorce from her Bernt Bodal at the time of filming. Their split was finalized in July.
During the on-screen conversation, Windham-Burke and Dodd advise their new co-star to drop the divorce and cash talk because it’s getting “annoying,” but Vargas says it has a deeper meaning for her.
“When I came into money, all I wanted to be was perceived as successful,” she admits in a confessional. “Growing up, I was poor. I had three jobs in high school just so I could drive a nice car so I wasn’t perceived as this poor little Mexican girl.”
Meanwhile, Dodd says she doesn’t understand how Vargas’ boyfriend, Jimmy, can put up with her discussing her money from her ex.
“He has tried to leave me many times,” Vargas says. “And I’m like, ‘Don’t leave me! I need someone!’”
The conversation concludes with Vargas thanking the women for sharing how they felt with her because that’s what a good friend does.
Elsewhere in the episode, Windham-Burke is the focal point of Shannon Beador, Emily Simpson and Gina Kirschenheiter’s chat during a hike, after Simpson and Kirschenheiter attended an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting with Windham-Burke. The mom of seven revealed publicly in October that she’s an alcoholic.
“Braunwyn is friggin’ broken right now,” Kirschenheiter begins. “You could see, like, even this morning, like, going to AA, it’s not glamorous.”
When Kirschenheiter adds that it was probably “very terrifying” for Windham-Burke to be so open, Simpson questions why she changed her stance on their friendship.
“She got in my heart,” Kirschenheiter responds. “She got in my heart. You get in my heart, I stick with you.”
Beador’s drinking is also dissected during the episode, as both group’s conversations turn to Vargas’ interactions with Beador the previous night. Vargas accuses Beador of getting drunk and getting into an altercation with her boyfriend, while Beador says she had a nice time.
“This conversation about Shannon, it hits a little too close to home,” Windham-Burke says in a confessional. “Drinking is fun and then it’s fun with problems and then it’s just problems. I see a lot of problems right now with Shannon.”
“The Real Housewives of Orange County” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
